Identifying the potential to improve the energy efficiency performance of buildings within its borough portfolio, the WLA signed up to the Mayor of London's RE:FIT building retrofitting scheme in summer 2013. So far the WLA energy efficiency programme has saved over £336k and 1,310 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions. The 1.73 megawatt (MW) array of 6,069 solar panels - the largest PV project ever installed by a local authority - operating at The Western International Market in Hounslow was delivered under WLA's RE:FIT programme.
In November 2015, our RE:FIT programme was named "Best European Energy Service Project" at the European Energy Service Awards held in Brussels.
The WLA continues to work with our member boroughs, offering a variety of delivery and funding methods, in order to improve the performance of respective properties thereby producing ongoing community and environmental benefits.
